BADIN: A big fire that broke out in Haji Gul Mohammed Mallah village, located at zero point, some 50km from here, destroyed more than 40 houses, shops and other structures on Tuesday.
All the affected families belonged to the fisherman community.
Fire tenders from Badin and Shaheed Fazil Rahu towns were sent to the village but the fire had already reduced a large number of structures and everything present within the affected area to ashes.
Rangers personnel posted at zero point also rushed to the village as soon as they received a distress call from the affected families. They took part in the relief and rescue work until the fire brigade extinguished the blaze.
Mithan Mallah, Umar Mallah and other activists of the Pakistan Fisher folk Forum speaking to local reporters said that the affected families suffered a collective loss of around Rs2 million as all their domestic articles, cash and valuables were destroyed by the fire.
