LAHORE: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday submitted nomination papers of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz, wife of ousted premier Nawaz Sharif, for the National Assembly seat NA-120 Lahore, sources told Geo News, which fell vacant following Sharif’s disqualification by the Supreme Court.
Reports emerged earlier this week that the ruling PML-N had finalised Sharif’s wife as the party’s candidate for the by-poll.
According to media reports, as many as 35 candidates have received nomination papers for the by-election, scheduled to be held on September 17.
Submission of the papers will end on August 12.
The scrutiny of the papers will take place on August 15-17, while the final list of candidates will be issued on August 26, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
In the 2013 General Elections, Nawaz won the seat by a substantial margin, defeating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Yasmin Rashid — who will be contesting for the seat this time around too.
