Fawad claimed, sharifs review petitions attempt to distract SC

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry today said his party is closely observing the proceedings in relation to the review petitions filed by the Sharif family.

Speaking to media earlier today, Chaudhry claimed that the review petitions filed by the Sharifs were mere attempts to distract the Supreme Court from its supervision of the case proceedings.

“The appeals are intended to end the given six-month duration of the references,” he said.

“NAB is siding with the Sharif family,” he further alleged.

PTI leader Naeem ul Haque also addressed media personnel and lashed out at the National Accountability Bureau, saying that it was using delaying tactics to stall proceedings.

“PM secretariat’s in-charge is still working on Nawaz’s orders,” Haque said, while demanding that the apex court take suo motu notice of this.

The leader further urged the apex court to issue instructions for releasing reports on the Dawn leaks and Model Town incident.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Wednesday while hearing review petitions filed by the Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said the final Panama verdict was to be decided by the same five-member bench which had given April 20 judgment.

Justice Azmat said that the apex court had formed an implementation bench but the decision was to be ultimately made by the five-member bench. The implementation bench was to work as per directions provided by the five-member bench, he said.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif through his petition has argued that the decision passed by the court on July 28 should have been passed by a three-member bench as Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and Justice Gulzar Ahmed’s jurisdiction had expired after their dissenting judgment on April 20. The same has been argued in the petitions filed by Nawaz’s children, Hassan, Hussain and Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar as well as Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
