MULTAN: A process of extending interest-free loans worth Rs 100 billion to benefit around 600,000 small farmers in Punjab was in progress under the Chief Minister’s Kissan Package and exactly 173,000 farmers availed the facility during last ten months.
An agriculture spokesman said in a statement on Wednesday small farmers having 12.5 acres or below land were being issued Rs 40,000 loan for Kharif season and Rs 25,000 for Rabi season under Chief Minister’s Kissan Package.
He said farmers having only five acres land were being preferred under the scheme.
He said that in time payment of previous loan would entitle a farmer to get interest-free loan for the next crop.
He said that after registration, farmers would be issued a token and concerned bank or any other financing institution would be contacted for further processing the loan request if the farmer would be found eligible.
Farmers are advised to reach Tahsil Land Record Centre along with an original identity card, cell phone number and details of land. Mazareen and those cultivating land on rent would also be eligible to apply.
The last date for registration has been extended up to Nov 30.
Farmers can avail interest-free loans from Akhuwwat, NRSP, ZTBL, NBP and telenor Bank. Landless farmers can avail the loan facility from Akhuwwat or NRSP.
Farmers can contact officials through agriculture helpline, 0800-15000 and 0800-29000 from 8am to 8pm for further guidance.
