Italian businesses keen on investment

ISLAMABAD: Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo has said that there was growing interest among the Italian business community to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, especially in view of the new avenues opening up under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Pontecorvo, accompanied by Commercial Counsellor of the Italian Embassy Roberto Puddu, was talking to Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Sartaj Aziz. Aziz expressed his satisfaction at the recent 46% increase in trade between the two countries from $1.3 billion in 2015-16 to $2 billion in 2016-17.

The ambassador said heads of several large Italian companies had visited Pakistan in recent months and highlighted sectors like natural gas, LNG, automotive, agricultural machinery and textile machinery.

Charter Communications subscribers may lose access to its channels: Viacom

Viacom Inc (VIAB.O) said on Wednesday that Charter Communications (CHTR.O) subscribers may lose access to its channels such as MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeonon as the expiration looms for a distribution deal between the companies.

Viacom said it had made a series of offers for a deal with Charter but could not meet the conditions asked by Charter.

“While we’re making every effort to reach a new deal, Charter’s actions may force a disruption in Spectrum subscribers’ service,” Viacom said in a statement.

The current deal between Charter and Viacom expires Oct. 15, according to a person familiar with the situation who declined to be identified. A blackout would hit 16.5 million subscribers.
