Islamabad (Monitioring Desk): Accountability court has issued non bailable arrest warrants of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in corruption reference.
The minister, who has skipped the previous three hearings on account of medical treatment in London, is accused by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income.
During today’s hearing, the NAB is expected to seek endorsement of seizure of two more assets of the minister two plots on Lahore’s Raiwind Road.
At the last hearing, Dar’s secondary counsel, Ayesha Hamid, requested the court to grant her client exemption from appearance on medical grounds and continue with the case by approving the appointment of a legal representative (pleader).
However, Judge Mohammad Bashir dismissed the request and ordered the continuation of the bailable warrants.
He also ordered Dar’s guarantor to ensure the minister’s presence at the next hearing or be prepared to have the Rs5 million surety bond confiscated.
Nawaz Sharif presides party meeting in Lahore
Lahore (Monitoring Desk): Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz President Mian Nawaz Sharif has presided the party meeting to discuss country’s political situation.
The political situation of the country and the party’s plan of action for the next general elections are being discussed at the meeting, acocrding to sources.
Besides, the corruption cases under trial in courts against the Sharif family are also being talked over.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Minister for Interior Affairs Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Railway Khawaja Saad Rafique, Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, Punjab Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah are in attendance at the meeting.
Former information minister Pervaiz Rasheed also reached Jati Umra for the meeting.
A day earlier, the prime minister reached Lahore and held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Shehbaz received the premier at the Lahore airport. Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed, Punjab IG Arif Nawaz, Lahore CCPO Amin Vains, DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf, Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Sunbal and other senior officers were also present at the airport to welcome the premier.
