Online monitoring of ventilators in hospitals launched


LAHORE: Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah has said that online monitoring system for ventilators in the teaching hospitals and specialised healthcare institutions have been introduced to ensure availability, functioning and rational use of ventilators for deserving patients.

He said that the system would further improve the quality of emergency and intensive care units services.

He was addressing a training workshop for the staff concerned of 40 teaching hospitals in the province to train them regarding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for online monitoring system of ventilators.

The workshop was arranged by the Strategic Planning Unit of Specialised Healthcare Department at the Auditorium of Children Hospital. 135 staff members from 40 hospitals attended the workshop.

Director General SPU Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore and his team, experts from Punjab Information Technology Board and Turkish consultant Dr Hassan Kagal were also present in the workshop.

Prof Rathore said that the staff of the hospitals had been provided tablets and internet facility for monitoring and uploading the data.

He said that all ventilators in teaching hospitals would be registered with a system. He said these ventilators had been categorised in two groups (Emergency & ICU). The monitoring staff would upload the name of patient on the ventilator, his attendants’ name and contact number through tablet computer.

He said that the staff nurse of the emergency or ICU would also upload the complete information regarding shifting of the patients on ventilators immediately.
