World Diabetes Day observed

RAWALPINDI: World Diabetes Day was observed in the city on Tuesday with emphasis to involve the community

by raising awareness, promoting partnership and mobilizing resources. District Health Authority organized a seminar here at his office.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer(CEO)Health Dr Sohail Chaudary , said there were about 7 million people suffering from diabetes in Pakistan and diabetes is the third major risk factor for global mortality after hypertension and tobacco use.

He said wide-ranging effort was urgently needed to prevent millions of new infections and increasing deaths because of it.

The CEO said the media’s role is important in this regard, through which people could be apprised about the disease and preventive measures for protection from the disease.

LAHORE: Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah has said that online monitoring system for ventilators in the teaching hospitals and specialised healthcare institutions have been introduced to ensure availability, functioning and rational use of ventilators for deserving patients.

He said that the system would further improve the quality of emergency and intensive care units services.

He was addressing a training workshop for the staff concerned of 40 teaching hospitals in the province to train them regarding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for online monitoring system of ventilators.

The workshop was arranged by the Strategic Planning Unit of Specialised Healthcare Department at the Auditorium of Children Hospital. 135 staff members from 40 hospitals attended the workshop.
