ISLAMABAD: State minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Dr. Darshan Monday informed the National Assembly that the government was determined to promote all sports in the country.
Answering the questions during the question hour in National Assembly, he said that Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) works under the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) to promote the standard of sports in the country.
He said that PSB has 38 affiliated National Sports Federations (NSFs) which are responsible for promotion of their respective sports in the country.
The minister said that Pakistan hockey Federation (PHF) is responsible for the promotion of Hockey at national and international level whereas, government facilitates them in executing their programme through financial an logistic support.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is the governing body of hockey and receives annual and special grants from PSB, he added.
The minister said that Pakistan Sports Board also bears national training camp expenses of the hockey teams (Junior & Senior) in connection with preparation and participation in any mega event.
Taking notice of failure of Pakistan Hockey in qualifying games for Olympic Games 2016, the management of Hockey was changed and Brig. (Retd) Muhammad Khalid Sajjad Khokhar was appointed as President and Shahbaz Ahmad Senior Ex-Olympian as Secretary General, PHF.
