Secretary orders improving conditions at allied hospitals

LAHORE: Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah has directed the officials concerned to take steps for bringing immediate improvement at the allied hospitals, attached with the medical universities/ medical colleges.

He was presiding over a meeting at his office, as a follow-up to his surprise visit to Government Teaching Hospital Mozang and Lady Wellingdon Hospital.

The secretary expressed his strong indignation over the poor conditions at the Mozang Teaching Hospital. He said the hospital affairs had been neglected by the authority concerned and the resources were not properly being utilised to provide better healthcare services to patients.

He lamented that during his surprise visit to the Government Mozang Hospital Monday night, many of the beds were found empty while senior medical officer was also absent from duty. He said that on the one hand, Mayo and Sir Ganga Ram Hospitals were overloaded with patients, and on the other hand resources of allied hospitals were not being fully utilized.

He said that teaching faculty should accept its responsibility to run the respective allied hospitals according to their capacity and directed that every medical university and college should hold meetings fortnightly with the MSs of the hospitals concerned to remain aware of the situation as well as to monitor the performance of the allied hospitals.  The report of the meeting should be sent to the Secretariat as well, he added.

Najam Shah said that he would monitor the situation in any of the attached hospital after one week by conducting a surprise visit there.
