Robbers kills GCU professor at Kalma Chowk Lahore today

Lahore (Monitoring Desk): Armed robbers has killed professor of Government College University at Kalma Chowk Lahore today while resisting robbery.

According to police, Professor Dr Akbar Cheema was travelling in his car when armed robbers intercepted him near Kalma Chowk to rob him of his valuables. When the professor resisted the robbery, they fatally shot him.

The suspects, who were on a motorcycle, fled the scene after the shooting.

Police transferred the deceased professor’s body to hospital for post-mortem and have launched an investigation into the incident.

Dr. Akbar Cheema was a professor at the GCU’s Botany Department.

Accountability court to record statement of IO in corruption reference against Dar

Islamabad (Monitoring Desk): Accountability court will record the statement of Investigation officer (IO) in corruption reference against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Dar is accused by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income. A reference against him was filed in September last year in light of the Supreme Court’s July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.

As Accountability Court-I Judge Mohammad Bashir began today’s proceedings, the NAB prosecutor informed him that they require some time to present the IO in court.

The judge then adjourned the proceedings until 11:30am today.

Earlier Election Commission of Pakistan rejected the nomination papers of Ishaq Dar for the senate allegations due to financial irregularities and multiple references against him.
